There is a new improved version of TextFree available now, It is “TextFree with voice” which allows you to make calls too 
.
Once you get the app, you have to register and enter the zip code of the area for which you want to get a number, eg 43105 , if you want a local Baltimore number
Once you are done, you can send / recieve texts for free.
Recieving Calls is free.
Inititally you are given 10 minutes of free calls, To get more minutes, you can either buy them or earn them.
Earning minutes is very very easy, all you need to do is, download the free apps given and earn minutes.
